Analysing the Front Cover of a Magazine
Image:
In this magazine there is a man with a stern face the model
is placed directly in the middle of the magazine. In This magazine the man does
not necessary have a friendly sense. However a more inspirational aspect. He
seems to have dominant powerful ora about his position Along with his stern
face he gesture where his hands are together display seriousness and
humbleness.
His eye contact enables the image to become more intimate
with the reader. Almost creating a conversation with the audience. This creates
the mood dependent on the emotion the model’s sending through not only through
his body language but also through his eyes. He seems to have a confident
seriousness about him which compliments the masculinity of the magazine.
This masculine vibe also compliments the colour of his
clothing and style. The colour Black is bold and fierce. It’s also simple yet
effective he stands out from the light back ground behind him. However matches
with the title bringing out the importance of them both.
The Nike Brand Logo on the clothing of the model is wearing
displays a sporty side to the representation of the magazine. As Nike is very well
known for its sport wear and trainers. It is also known for supporting and
mainly directing there style to the younger generation perhaps young teens to
young adults. This creates an audience for the magazine. The Nike logo also enhances the masculine
side of the magazine
Moreover the designers of the
magazine choose on purposely to have the crown drawn on the model rather than
the modelling actually wearing one. This almost symbolises graffiti. This gives
a sense of rebelliousness. The graffiti suits the sporty style of the model.
Though the crown drawn also give a style of childishness by the simplicity and
imperfections of the crown.
Cover lines:
There are only two very simple cover lines. That
allows the main image and tittle more noticeable as the have more attention.
However it also gives the audience the patience to actually read the only two subtitles
as they are very simple. (Since there is not too much going on). One of the subtitles
says “LONG LIVE THE KING” Which is sends a almost demanding and bold statement
adding to the masculinity. The statement not only brings domination but also
sense of aggressiveness. The statement relates to the crown drawn on the models
head. This sends a submissive message to the audience.
Title/colour:
This is the master head, the typography is a Is in a bold, thick style with simplicity. The Idea of this style of magazine is Quite masculine partly with a very urban/Hip hop style. The Boldness of the title displays masculinity. However the fact that the Title is not necessarily a Typical Hip hop genre. As usually the style will be more colourful and more creative with the type of font, For example what graffiti may look like. Though this type of font comes across more formal and sophisticated. This gives the magazine a more important outlook overall. Including the fact that the colour is a simple black indicating elegance..
Tagline:
The other main tagline is "Wiley". This is a name of a Rap artist called Richard Cowie. The fact that this known. He is also the model of this magazine. Wiley genre of music is drum and base, Grime, UK garage and dance hall This immediately creates the genre of the magazine of street music.
Planing:
In this magazine there are many aspects of urban street stlye which I'm planing to include on my front cover magazine. Also including some bold simple colours and text.
